|The greatest challenge was how to reduce the distortion of the copper product by the forming and joining operations that may mar its appearance. The distortion of the top panel with five small and large extruded holes was reduced by balancing the arrangement of the extruded holes and using simple tools made on a laser cutting machine. A distortion correcting frame was installed on the inside of the side panels and was joined to the top panel with copper rivets. The bottom panel had to be brazed on the entire circumference (1600 mm) to ensure watertightness. The thermal distortion of the brazed joints was prevented by using flanges and side seam structure.
We think that the appearance of the copper product made by taking the measures to prevent its distortion as well as scratches was appreciated by the judges. (Comment of one of the students)
We find it worthwhile to make things when we realize the pleasure of completing them and having them appreciated by others. This fair is a valuable opportunity for actually feeling this worthwhileness. I firmly believe that this experience will build our students of confidence and pride to make things.
