We fabricated digital camera cases of the same shape from three different materials (titanium, magnesium, and stainless steel). Since these cases were all drawn with a single low-cost die, forming conditions like blank holding and metal flow were changed to suit the properties of the specific materials.
When the case is cut after drawing, its cut end tends to open. Controlling and stabilizing this opening tendency is one of our success factors. A new 3D laser cutting method helped us to meet dimensional tolerances of 0.05 mm and win the gold award. I would like to share this pleasure with the employees who engaged in the research for this fair and with all other employees who supported their effort.
We will work toward the next step after mastering the precision drawing technology for digital camera cases and similar products.
