Akari Koi is a transforming sheet-metal lantern made from 1.2 mm copper and stainless steel using laser-cut flat patterns and precision bending. The main feature is a fully mechanical transformation: lifting the upper section reveals the hidden koi-patterned middle section. A laser-cut compliant spring provides the release action, reducing the number of separate components. The koi and wave artwork was simplified specifically for laser cutting to avoid loose sections and overly small details. The design combines decorative sheet-metal work with a simple mechanical transformation and efficient manufacture.
