The locking mechanism of the legs is integrated into the sheet metal parts which eliminates the need for additional hinge components. The design was optimized for the smallest possible scale at which it is still possible to bend with our air bending equipment. Also in this design is a demonstration of pressed inserts for threads. The back rest of the chair is hinged on a half shear formed by the laser/punch combo machine. This is only possible with very small tolerance (in the region of 0.3mm) which includes blanking and bending. Each petal of the umbrella is made from a single sheet metal component, whereby the blank is bent and the resulting bent part is completely self jigging. At welding, the operator needs only to press the curved top of the umbrella against the laser cut profile of the supporting rib. This ensures a consistent and accurate curvature which is uniform and repeatable.
