Strengths
This work realistically represents a Taiwanese sky lantern, featuring an internal light fixture that recreates its illuminated, airborne appearance.
Technical Details:
Main techniques include laser cutting, bending, sub-welding, and post-welding hand polishing. The piece comprises three main parts — the lantern cover, main body, and base. Sixteen welds on the cover and body were carefully polished to minimize visible marks. Both the lantern and base underwent mirror polishing, requiring exceptional precision and effort. Internal lighting was installed inside the hollow support frame to simulate the glowing effect.
Laser cutting was used to create the Chinese characters on the cover and three sides of the body. Cutting, polishing, and drawing the characters demanded high accuracy. The symmetrical bending of the cover also posed a challenge, testing the craftsmanship and skill of the artist and lathe operator.
