We are all very grateful for our second Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun Award to “Scroll of Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) Generator”. Thank you very much indeed.

Scroll is one of Micro Gas Turbine components. The expanding distortion caused by the circulating high temperature combustion gas inside the of scroll and the compressed air load supplied to the combustion chamber creates friction and abrasion to the connector between the combustion chamber and scroll, which impact the life of MGT. We wanted to solve the issue of life of MGT by manufacturing the doughnut shaped scroll in one piece body, which is generally consists of multiple parts to being less distortion from thermal expansion or compressed air.

The awkwardness we faced in creating this piece was the processing and welding of “Hastelloy X Alloy”, the nickel super alloy material with great oxidation resistance even in high temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Celsius for which we chose. By changing to one-piece body structure, we were able to develop high quality scroll with less thermal stress from temperature change and very few cracks. Thus, high quality scroll prevents gas turbine engine from damage itself and I believe we have successfully contributed to reducing the running cost.

We hope to brush up our skills and technologies to offer 20,000 hour life of gas turbine components which will contribute to hydrogen innovation for the coming hydrogen society in the global warming control, CO₂ emissions reduction, stable electric power supply and energy resource conservation.
